“It's been a little while since our last moment of quiet.” (The Launch of Issue VI: Interlude)
January’s song: the launch of Half Mystic Journal’s Issue VI: Interlude, an evening of cotton & heartbeat & violin, wild, soft, ephemeral, fierce. What a bright way to welcome in 2019: the the curve of a guitar chord, the collective inhale breaking the untouched silence after a particularly stunning line of poetry, the tiny giggling ripple of delight as one of the bookstore's cats positions herself directly on the floor between performer & audience, head tilted upwards, just listening. The feeling of art as homeland. The post-event bliss. Thank you, songbirds, for yet another gathering that made the Half Mystic team remember where we came from & why we’re staying. Thank you for a night of dream & dust & crack-sparkle liminality.
Half Mystic Journal’s Issue VI: Interlude—now on its second (!) print run—is available to purchase now. Each issue comes with a free I READ HALF MYSTIC sticker, which we debuted at the launch to huge celebration! Thank you to everyone who attended, but especially the performers & crew who brought this night to life: Crispin Rodrigues (emcee), Laetitia K. (writer), Ethel Yap (musician), Jocelyn Suarez (writer), Jean Tan (musician), Alvin Pang (writer), Jerome Quah (photographer), & Kenny Leck (venue host). Happy 2019. Happy Issue VI. Thank you, friends, for holding this close.
